Sonya's Garden

I spent my post-birthday lunch yesterday at Sonya's Garden in Tagaytay with Abner. The trip took almost two hours (South Super Highway is undergoing rehabilitation), but once you've reached and passed the Sta. Rosa exit, everything is a breeze! This is one trip where you'd leave your car windows open to feel the cool air. No pollution, no smoke belchers.

Sonya's Garden is a place where one can't just say, 'just dropping by', since it is tucked away from the main road and you'd really have to exert extra effort to get there. It was overwhelming! Perfect for quiet moments, conversations, relaxations and what-nots.. any nature-lover will go gaga with the country settings, numerous flower gardens and trails, and secluded garden nooks, coupled with the very cool fresh air Tagaytay is famous for.

Here I found and was so excited in seeing a red caballero, as Manila would have it mostly in orange, or yellow. We had to ask permission from the gardener if we can just have one of its pods. I'd like to attempt to grow one at home! For sili or chili lovers, we were amazed to see multi-colored, what looked like siling-labuyo, planted near the cottages. Parang christmas lights!!

Hopeless romantics, according to their website, sees the garden as, and I quote, "a wonderful haven of romance, love blooms in Sonya’s garden like flowers of an eternal spring.... and have found it to be a popular spot to disarm, to court and to propose." I don't blame them. If you have all the time in the world, and would like to engage into simple conversations-- no frills... then this is the place!

The food is very filling! Their lunch include unlimited freshly squeezed dalandan juice, a garden salad, whose ingredients are freshly picked from their vegetable gardens; freshly baked, oven-hot wheat bread with dips, as well as their pasta with their signature sauces. And if you think that was all, you'll be surprised with their dessert of sweet-boiled kamote (yummy!) banana rolls (turon!) and very moist chocolate cake. Lunch, by the way, also took us almost 2 hours! With the kind of food they serve, you'll be talking and talking in between! How's that for conversations?

I'd certainly would like to return. Ahemm..parinig lang.

Beowulf in 3D

Who would have thought that the voice behind Mr. Beaver (The Chronicles of Narnia) would give a great impact and life to the triumphs and trials of the 6'6" Norse warrior of the legendary 8th century 3,000-line long epic poem.

I was very excited yesterday as I met up with Abner at Rack's at the St. Francis Square in Ortigas. We watched Robert Zemekis' Beowulf in 3D at the Imax Theater (Mall of Asia) . Never really paid much attention to this epic in high school english literature-- actually never really understood it! 75% of the class got confused between Beowulf and Grendel, from the name alone, that is, which is hero or foe.

While Robert Zemekis' film adaptation contains and remains faithful to the characters and themes of the actual story, there is also a bit of 'spice' in it which involves Grendel's mother toward the movie's end. Something the would leave the viewers in thought, and something to talk about.

Visually enticing, and since it's in 3D, it gives you heart-stopping adventure and scenes, -- the cobblestones at the beach, the spear from the guard you'd swear is directly pointing inches from your face, the fight between Beowulf and Grendel, with a lot more to drool on (hehe, and you guys out there thought you've got Angelina Jolie!) --Beowulf has to strip, as he says that the 'monstah' does not have any clothing or armour, therefore he has to fight fair! OMG he can fight all he wants! The fight scene happens in all his naked splendor. But of course, it's so fast and so well done that you'd thought you've seen 'it' but...tsk.tsk..too bad...! hahaha! I like this heartwarming scene (umm..not 'exactly' heartwarming 'visually', though) when Beowulf needed to sacrifice his arm in order to slay the dragon and save his queen and mistress. It's the look on his face that makes one feel his desperation! *hikbi*

Three thumbs up! Bravo! Clap! Clap! Clap! Nood tayo ulit!

KFC: Extreme Hotshots

KFC's Extreme Hotshots.

I love their ordinary Hotshots, it is 'hot' and spicy enough though most people I know can't take it. For those who can, and had tasted The Extreme, some say it is ridiculously 'hot', while others say that the taste of chicken was drowned by the taste of the chili powder. I've got to try this!

The box says/ shows it all. Sort of gives a warning to consumers. Was having second thoughts the first time. Went to KFC by my lonesome. Naku! pano kung bigla akong naiyak sa anghang?!? When I took a piece out of its box.. tadtad nga ng chili powder! Itutuloy ko pa bang isubo? baka kelanganin ko pa ng extra drink or something? No.. pananagutan ko ito. And I did.

Heaven!!!! Isa pa nga... :-)
